5U - Fundamentals
The fundamentals program is designed to provide a fun experience for 4 & 5 year-old youngsters to learn the basic skills of baseball. Players must be 4 years of age by April 30, 2019 to enrol in the program. Please contact us if you would like special consideration for the age restrictions.
The goal of the program is to build a confident group of parents as coaches and children ready to enter the T-Ball program. Sessions focus on teaching the fundamentals of baseball – throwing, hitting, and fielding. Waterloo and Kitchener REP team players and coaches are invited to assist with one-on-one instruction.
The fundamentals program is a 9-week program held on Saturday mornings from April 20-June 22 at 9:00am or 10:00am (excluding Victoria Day weekend). Each session includes 25-35 players and is located at the Manulife Sport Complex (185 Bridge St. Waterloo, ON). The final session is located at Breithaupt park during Kitchener's Baseball Day.
End of Season
The last session is held at Lion's Park during Kitchener's Baseball Day. Each participate will receive an award on the last day of the program or an alternate date pending the schedule.
Each session begins with a 5-minute stretching/warm-up activity followed by rotations between 2-3 stations (hitting, throwing, fielding). Players rotate between sessions every 15 minutes. The last 5-10 minutes include peanut-free snacks and clean up.
Scrimmages are incorporated into the sessions once players better understand the game. Additional fun activities, including Hit, Run and Throw competitions, and baseball show-and-tell are also included.
